Driven by the wish to create beautiful design Keld Mikkelsen established his own company, DAY BIRGER et MIKKELSEN in 1997 at the age of 39. From the beginning his vision was to create a design company from a design point of view and not from a sales point of view.

For several periods Keld has worked in Asia as Production Manager and Head of Design. During longer stays in Hong Kong & India he became particularly fascinated by the quality of tailored clothes, the true craftsmanship, which is art and craft at the same time. Embroideries, prints, patterns, edging and trimming, all of them reflective of the ancient traditions in Asia and all with a story to tell ~ just like the beads and embroideries from New York's twenties & thirties also carry their own story. These are the stories that are carried on to Denmark where they find new expressions in DAY BIRGER et MIKKELSEN.
